New York City is gearing up for the jubilant celebration of Korean culture that is ‘NY Korea Day‘ on August 16th!
Organized by the Korean American Globalization Committee of Eastern U.S., ’Korea Day’ aims to share our native Korean culture with New Yorkers in the heart of iconic Central Park, where fun activities and delicious feasts are being preparing with the help and support of the Korean Cultural Service NY and many local Korean restaurants.
To open and end the many performances lined up for that day, the KCSNY has invited ‘Sorea‘ to come play music that’ll bridge the gap between generations. Sorea specializes in traditional Korean music, but they’ve also become a sensation amongst younger music fans thanks to their covers of popular K-Pop songs like SNSD’s “Gee“.
The Korean Cultural Services NY (KCSNY director Woo Sung Lee) will also be working with allkpop.com (6Theory Media CEO Johnny Noh) to host the first ever “New York K-POP Contest“. Of the many contestants who’ve auditioned online, the eight teams who made it to the finals will be performing live at the event on August 16th. The single winner of the contest will receive a round-trip ticket to Korea (sponsored by Asiana Airlines), as well as the opportunity to participate in the ‘Worldwide KPOP Contest” taking place in Korea on November 26, 2011.
These exciting events will definitely make you feel hungry later on, but that’s easily remedied by going over to the many stalls that’ll be cooking traditional Korean dishes, such as Bulgogi, Daegi Bulgogi, lettuce wraps, Kimchi, Korean pancakes, Japchae, Ddukboki, and Bibimbap. These dishes will be made right on-site, and so attendees who are new to Korean culture will not only get fresh food, but also an introduction to the dishes that make up the heart of our tables.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!
