[Recap] United Cube Concert in London

[Recap] United Cube Concert in London

It could have been a colder winter, but this year the snow has not reached London yet. I think this made the people, who were waiting outside the venue the whole night, in a certain way, lucky.
The United Cube group arrived in London on December 4th and already many fans were waiting to welcome them at the airport. I do not know if they were as surprised as I was to see the one block-long queue of people from every country outside the venue. The choice of the O2 Academy in Brixton could seem a bit bizarre for those who live in London, since Brixton is a multiethnic district of African and Caribbean descendants, but I guess, at the same time, it was the perfect choice. The O2 Academy hosted some of the biggest names of the international music industry such as MadonnaBob DylanRihanna and it would be the first time to host an Asian group.
The entrance to the venue went smoothly. They were showing MVs of 4minuteBEASTG.NA repeatedly to kill the time, while journalists from the YTN interviewed people around and shot the place. It is not a big venue but it was enough to contain the 3500 fans armed with posters, cards, lighting sticks and flags.
After few commercials, with no pre-announcement whatsoever, 4minute was standing in front of us, all of them dressed in white suits. They started with “Hot Issue” followed by “I My Me Mine” and “Heart To Heart.” During this song HyunA started to make a real first contact with the audience, with many cute poses and greetings for the fans with the camera, but unfortunately she badly slipped on the floor and right after the song she disappeared for a while.

The rest of the group introduced themselves, and, since they could not rely on their English skills, they brought with them an awkward interpreter. They asked fans “Where are you from?” At that moment I found out that the audience was not only from Asia, but also from France, Germany, UK (obviously) and rest of Europe. The most amazing thing was that they were able to sing along in Korean. At that moment one could realize how strong the K-Pop is, its popularity, and the power of the Internet to bring all of us there.

After a short break and chat with the audience, 4minute left the stage and HyunA came back again with her sexy and cheerful choreography of “Bubble Pop” and it was very fun when all the audience followed her with the background sound “Ooh,” typical of this song. 4minute started singing again together with “Huh”, “Mirror Mirror” and “Muzik”.
It was G.NA’s turn on the stage. She astonished the viewers with her good control of English, as she grew up in Canada. She was wearing a black dress, with sparkling gold sequin on the chest with a black blazer that clearly exposed her model-like physique. She started with “Black & White” followed by “I’ll Back Off So You Can Live.” After a little chat about broken hearts with the audience she performed a short cover of Rihanna’s “Take a Bow”, BeyoncĂ©’s “Halo” continuing with “Supa Solo”, “Banana,” which is not easy to hear on Korean TV, and ended with “Top Girl.”
Without having the time to say “Wow! She’s so beautiful,” BEAST was already on the stage and the audience really went wild. They started with “Shock”, followed by “Breath”, “Bad Girl”, “Special” and “Rainbow.”

They really did pure fan service, taking the cameras from the people on the first row and shooting photos, taking banners and gifts from the fans. Just as I started to think it was a little bit disappointing because they did not say a word in English, except for “Thank you London,” they disappeared and played a video in English about their history, how hard the time before their debut was and before making it big. They tried to thank the fans with “an everlasting love” for their support.
It was a very touching moment, but soon enough HyunA and Hyunseung put the audience on fire again with “Troublemaker” (this time only a cheek kiss!). BEAST continued their small concert with “Lightless” whereYoseob really stood out with his powerful voice, “The Day That Rain Comes”, “Fiction”, “I Like You The Best”, ”Beautiful” and for last “V.I.U.
BEAST left the stage, the concert got to its end and audience called for an encore. As the last performance the United Cube group sang together “Fly So High” with an explosion of confetti and fireworks.
It was a memorable concert. We were not so many, but I hope we were able to greet the United Cube artists warmly enough. I am not saying one artist was better than the other, however I have to say that BEAST really rocked the show. You need to see with your own eyes how much passion they put into their performance, you really feel as a part of something, you really feel like a fan.

It was so nice to see them sing, play and have fun together as a team on the stage, like they are there for you or, like G.NA said, “It is very cold outside, we will make tonight hot.”

Idol singers pick Taeyang and HyunA as the next Rain and Hyori

Big Bang’s Taeyang and 4minute’s HyunA were picked as “the Next Rain and Hyori” by other idol singers in this week’s MBC Everyone’s “Weekly Idol.” The survey asked a group of real-life idols to pick “five idol singers with the most potential to follow in the success of Rain and Hyori” and the most votes were given to Taeyang and HyunA, who beat out the likes of BEAST’s Lee Gi Kwang, Jay Park, SNSD’s Yuri, and G.NA. In particular, it was reported that a lot of the members of Infinite, MBLAQ, U-Kiss, and B1A4 voted for HyunA, arousing the interest of many fans.

MBC Everyone’s “Weekly Idol” has been garnering a lot of attention lately for this segment called “Real Chart! Idol’s Self-Ranking,” where current idol singers participate in various surveys. This week’s survey sparked more interest for the topic’s sensitivity and currency, as Rain just enlisted in the army last week and Hyori has been spending more time on show-hosting roles. The episode featuring this survey will be aired on Oct. 22.

SBS Inkigayo unveils poll for the celebrities fellow idols want to have an outing with

G-Dragon and Nana top another poll, selected by their fellow idols, as the male and female idols who they want to have a spring outing with.

Last April, SBS Inkigayo made a popularity poll targeting the idols and the staff who have guested on the program. Additionally, they asked female idols to select the male idol they wanted to have a spring outing with and vice versa.

The results were announced on the 20th of May and it was revealed that G-Dragon was selected as the top male idol that female idols want to have an outing with. He was then followed by TVXQ's Yunho and ZE:A's Kwanghee which both shared the second spot. Third place was shared by Big Bang's TOP and CN Blue's Yonghwa, while Beast's Doojoon and Kikwang ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Meanwhile, Orange Caramel's Nana ranked first for the female idols whom male idols want to spend their spring outing with. She was followed by IU and 4Minute's HyunA in second and third respectively. Ranking fourth and fifth on the poll was Girl's Day's Mina and f(x)'s Sulli.

4minute talks about their relationship with BEAST

4minute recently shared some stories during an interview about their close relationship with their fellow Cube Entertainment group, BEAST.

As BEAST prepared for their comeback stage on Music Bank, 4minute was asked about their relationship with their label mates and revealed, "We treat them like our real brothers." During the interview, 4minute confessed, "As BEAST's popularity continues to grow, and with lots of female fans around, we would often be worried about them being noticed by fans for being too close with us and then have us involved in scandals."

"However, the problem is that their fans would view us not like any other girl groups but as BEAST's sibling group. We were just surprised when some of their fans would say things like, 'If ever you'll be involved in any scandal, we'd prefer you doing it with the 4minute unnies (older sisters)," the girls continued while laughing.

4minute and BEAST are from the same agency, Cube Entertainment. Although 4minute debuted a little earlier than BEAST, the fact is undeniable to fans that they have such a tight friendship.

4minute continued, "BEAST's fans have this easy mindset about us. Our fans would even pressure us that if ever we will ever have joint-stages like what we do for Gayo Daejuns or year-end specials, we should do it with no other boy group other than BEAST."

Meanwhile, 4minute has finished promoting their youthful and cute title-track track “Heart To Heart” and has passed the baton to BEAST, who are making their comeback this week with their title track “Fiction."

4minute's maknae Kwon Sohyun opens up about her beginnings as a part of the girl group Orange.

On the cable channel Mnet's "Beatle's Code" recording Kwon Sohyun confesses the difficult times she had when she was in Orange.

Orange was a group, composed of 3 elementary school girls, made 6 years ago in 2005. Kwon Sohyun first debuted into this industry as a member of that group when she was 12 years old and in the 5th grade.

"At that time, I didn't want to be a singer. Because it was an elementary school girl group, everyone who was the same age was very jealous," Sohyun recalls. "Because there was so much cyber bullying and many anti cafes forming, I was very hurt. There was also a time in school when I became a loner."

"When I went to middle school, I watched as an unni from my school debuted as a singer. After that, the unni and I were compared so much that I felt very hurt. After that, I started going to auditions again."

Kwon Sohyun's full, heartbreaking story will be revealed on the 19th.

"We want to tell the children. Have Big Dreams" - Interview with Tohoshinki & 16 others kpop groups

Tohoshinki, SHINee, BEAST, MBLAQ, 2PM, 2AM, Supernova, FT Island, SG Wannabe, Miss A, Secret, SISTAR, f(x), 4minute, IU and ZE:A – A total of 16 groups of artists came together in the Live event “Tokyo Legend 2011.” This is the first time such a grand K-pop event has been attempted in Japan, and before the performance, there was a press conference held on the same day (14 May), at the concert location Saitama Super Arena.

This performance is in support of the UN’s MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) of poverty relief project, the GFSC (Good Friends Save the Children) charity campaign and sends a “Love & Peace Message.” Also, there was the theme of “Let’s Get Up! Japan, Pray for JAPAN!!” sending a message of, as well as actual resource support from the performers to the areas affected by the Tohoku Earthquake, bringing hope to the children.

At the start of the press conference, all 16 groups of artists shared a moment of silence to express their sympathies for the victims of the earthquake. Then, the performing artists introduced themselves one by one, and spoke about their determination for this Live.
(Other artists’ comments – some in Korean, some in Japanese, all omitted)
“We are really happy to be able to do such a Live concert with so many great artists from Korea. Also, although they may be going through a difficult time now, but we hope to tell them to “Cheer up!” ” – Tohoshinki (Naturally, Changmin commented in Japanese)
(Irrelevant information omitted)

Finally, the emcee said to Tohoshinki, “As words from the both of you will give strength to your many fans in Japan, please leave a message,” and again Changmin, while considering the best words to convey his thinking, had something to say to the children.
“I have a message for the children. You’ve always had big dreams, and been working hard towards those dreams, right? For this, I want to work hard so that today’s stage is even more special.” – Changmin (Tohoshinki)
