[NEWS] MMA 2011 TOP 30 REVEALED, WHERE IS JYJ?

2011 Melon Music Award (hereafter MMA) has published the list of top 30 artists for online voting, the names of JYJ (Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu, Kim Jaejoong) weren’t included, which is bringing forth curiosity.

MMA has revealed the list of top 30 artists for the 1st round of online voting ‘2011 Melon Music Award’ which is conducted from 27th October to 6th November.

In the list of top 30 artists revealed this time, Kim Bum Soo, Park Jung Hyun, Hugak, etc., stars of eye-catching programs ‘I am singer’ and ‘Super Star K’ were included. This year, in Korean music industry, the crazes of ‘I am singer’ and ‘Super Star K’ are plainly shown. In addition, DBSK, Super Junior, 2PM, Miss A, 4minutes, Beast, Secret, Sistar, Girl’s day, etc., many idols were also included. But JYJ’s name is missing.

Last September, JYJ has released their first Korean album ‘In Heaven’. Just offline albums have sold over 300,000 copies and received much love. But they can’t be on any TV program.

However, because of the relationship between JYJ and their former company, SM Entertainment, the awards showed disapproval of JYJ’s appearance. Actually, if JYJ appears at the awards ceremony or is awarded, SM Entertainment that is in legal dispute with them might refuse to appear. It was explained that, in the stance of awards ceremony organizer, it was burdened to lose DBSK, f(x), Super Junior, SNSD, these so-called ‘big-fish’ of this year.

About this, MMA official explained, “Top 30 artists were selected basing on Melon streaming times (40%), number of downloads (50%) and utilization of SKT Wireless (MOD) (10%). The selection is based on accurate data and JYJ was out of top 30.”

JYJ to take on movies, dramas and musicals for latter half of 2011

JYJ will continue their activities in 2011 as actors and will progress in the fields of dramas, movies and musicals.

Yoochun, who successfully made his debut as an actor in the KBS drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" last year, decided to take on another drama. A representative from JYJ's management stated, "After 'Sungkyunkwan Scandal', there have been many 'love-calls' from various projects," and "The first drama was of historical nature. So we are looking for a drama that will bring out a different charm of Yoochun. At the latest, we will find another drama by the latter half of the year."

Yoochun received various praises for his acting due to his role as Lee Sun Joon in "Sungkyunkwan Scandal." His potential as an actor was confirmed when he won 3 awards at the 2010 KBS Drama Awards: Best Newcomer Award, Netizen Award, and Best Couple Award.

Junsu, who recently took on a role in the musical "Tears of Heaven", decided that he will continue his activities in the musical field. "Tears of Heaven" is set to premiere on February 1st.

A representative stated, "Although there have been offers from both movie and drama companies, Junsu plans to continue his activities as an actor in the musical field. His acting was confirmed through the musicals he participated in as well as ticket sales. There must first be a satisfactory ending to "Tears of Heaven", then Junsu will probably greet the audience in another musical in the latter half of this year."

Jaejoong participated in the Japanese drama "Sunao ni Narenakute" (It's Hard to Say I Love You) last year, which included other well-known Japanese actors. Jaejoong is expected to debut in a domestic drama this year. Drama companies have been paying close attention to Jaejoong after he showed he had the basics of acting down.

His representative said, "Jaejoong's charm 'mask' and experience has prompted many producers who have been paying attention to him to make numerous 'love-calls'. It's not only dramas, various movie producers have come. Currently we are considering the good drama offers seriously. In the later part of this year, there is high probability that Jaejoong will be greeting the audience through a drama."

First round of tickets for Big Bang's "Big Show" sold out in 5 minutes

On January 18, Gmarket made the first round of tickets available for Big Bang's "Big Show", but they only lasted for five minutes. Big Bang's immense popularity is easy to see as only 14,000 tickets were available, but 150,000 fans attempted to purchase first-round tickets on Gmarket.

Big Bang's first concert saw a ticket server failure as well as a postponed ticket sale date. The 10:1 ratio of the 2011 "Big Show" potential ticket buyers to those who were actually able to buy the tickets once again indicates Big Bang's power to sell out venues.

Those unable to buy tickets during the first round will not give up. Fans anticipate a second and third round of tickets to open up in the near future. YG Entertainment representatives promised, "We'll make sure to put on a great show and pay you back for all the waiting you did."

Korean boy bands to generate heat in 2011 with new strategy

Seoul (The Korea Herald/ANN) - Expect a fierce rivalry on the Korean music scene this year, as top boy bands are ready to make a comeback.

Until now, the Korean music channels were mostly dominated by popular girl groups or singers like the Girls Generation, but this year the boys are expected to take the lead.

Even before the release of their albums, the long-waited returns of TVXQ and Big Bang have generated heat among K-Pop fans.

In 2011 boy bands, which usually consists of three to six members, will start performing in pairs.

In Japan, this marketing strategy known as "unit" is already being used to show each member's talents and individual qualities by performing in smaller numbers than the original group.

During the end of last year, G-Dragon and T.O.P of Big Bang released the album "GD & TOP," while U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin of TVXQ released "Keep Your Head Down."

Now that the two major music industries in Korea, SM Entertainment for TVXQ and YG Entertainment for Big Bang have released duet albums, there is a growing interest in the changing music scenes for boy bands in Korea.

Internet sites and YouTube have already recorded a high number of viewers, as music fans are ecstatic over the duet performances.

The special edition of TVXQ, "Keep Your Head Down" was released on Jan 5, and within a day the duo had racked up an impressive sales amount of 15,000 copies. U-Know and Max will perform in Japan on the 26th to promote their new album.

For Big Bang and TVXQ it has already been over two years since their last album was released.

Their new music shows a major transition from their previous albums. The new album "GD&TOP," is more of a mixture between electronica and hip-hop, with thumping house beats.

On Dec. 23, the boys of the group BEAST divided into three units of two members for duets for the popular Korean music program, Mnet Countdown.

The hip-hop duet "Thanks To" was performed by Yo-seop and Jun-hyung, the R&B "Let It Snow" by Hyun-seung and Gi-Kwang and the ballad "When the Door Closes" by Du-jun and Dong-woon.

"When six members perform together, what each individual performer can show is limited," their agency said.

The agency further commented that the benefit of performing in duos is that the members can emphasize on their individuality and further reveal their talents such as their singing voice.

Will Big Bang and 2NE1 be able to bring something new in 2011?

Will 2011 be the year the hallyu idols make a difference? With the disbandment of TVXQ, Japan was in a quiet state until the girl groups, Girls’ Generation and Kara made their debut and set the fire back into the Japanese entertainment industry. Among the hallyu groups, YG‘s male and female groups, Big Bang and 2NE1 have started their activities and have shown their confidence by saying, "We will definitely succeed on the Japanese stage." YG’s president, Yang Hyun Seok, have commented on the activities at Japan.
“Starting in May, for about 2 months, Big Bang will hold a Japan tour concert and they’re preparing for it. Right now, they’ve been going to Japan once a week and have been promoting a small out but starting in 2011, they’ll be more aggressive and offensive in their promotion tactics.”
Following Big Bang and 2NE1, they’re not your usual hallyu idol or your girl group because they’ve split up their promotion schedule so that they’ll be able to promote both in Japan and Korea, making their promotion techniques unique.

President Yang continued by saying,
“The proposal of 2NE1′s debut in Japan was proposed since last year. But because they’re a group that debuted not too long ago and are still rookies, we believed it was best to focus our attention on promoting them in Korea so it has been a bit late. After completely finishing their activities for their first full length album, they will officially debut in Japan during February.”
But what are his thoughts on the success of Big Bang and 2NE1 in the Japanese industry.

For Big Bang, he said,
“It was suggested with our partner in Japan that we split the promotions in Japan and Korea and that the focus on promoting one thing at a time. They’ll promote their Korean album during March and April and their Japanese concert will be during May and June, along with other promotions, and from July through September, they’ll promote another Korean album and from October to November, they’ll promote another Japanese album.”
He continued by saying,
“They’re well known in Korea already and in Japan, they’re getting to that point so we believe it would be best to focus on their promotions and we believe by doing that, we’ll get good results.”
Truthfully, before Big Bang started their official promotion in Japan, starting in early 2011, many fans have been interested already and they’ve been awarded 2 years straight with the Japanese Record award.

In the case of 2NE1, they have formed a partnership with TVXQ’s company, Avex, and already, their future in Japan seems bright. President Yang said, “The owner of Avex have taken a liking of 2NE1 for a while and they proposed on working with 2NE1 so the staff of YG have been anticipating greatly for 2NE1′s debut in Japan.”

2NE1′s first Japan promotion will be during February and March, for 2 months and within that time frame in May and June, they will be preparing for their Korean album that will be announced in May and June.

Big Bang to hold "BIG SHOW" and embark on Japan tour in 2011

K-pop idols Big Bang next year will hold their annual "BIG SHOW" in Korea as well as embark on a concert tour in Japan, according to YG Entertainment on Thursday.

Yang Hyun-suk, CEO and founder of YG, announced on their official blog site (http://www.yg-life.com) that Big Bang will take the stage for their concert titled "BIG SHOW" at the Olympic Park Stadium from February 25 to 27.

The concert is usually held in late-January every year but next year's show was postponed because Big Bang wanted to show fans new songs from their upcoming group album, the latest songs from G-Dragon and T.O.P's unit album, and the tracks from member Seungri's mini-album, Yang explained.

He added that Seungri's solo album will be released on January 13, ten days later than the originally scheduled date since they wanted to give the youngest member a longer time to promote his record and give G-Dragon and T.O.P enough time to promote additional title tracks "Don't Go Home" and "Baby Good Night."

The agency has yet to set an exact date for the release of Big Bang's group album.

Yang further announced that the boys will fully concentrate on their singing careers in Japan as well by holding a concert tour in Japan for two months starting May next year.

"We discussed it with our partners in Japan and we decided that the group should focus deeply on their promotional events in each country. The boys will be in Korea from March to April, hold their concert and promotional events in Japan from May till June, release a new album in Korea sometime between July till September and then return back to Japan."

Composed of other members Daesung and Taeyang, Big Bang was discovered and trained by major talenthouse YG Entertainment. They have released several albums and hit songs such as "Dirty Cash," "With U," "Lies" and "Haru Haru."

The quintet have successfully crossed over into the Japanese music market in June of last year with their debut single "My Heave" which reached No. 3 on the prestigious Oricon daily singles chart and toured three cities in the country which attracted a total of 60,000 fans.

They have released other singles in Japan such as "Tell Me Goodbye" and "Beautiful Hangover" and performed on the main stage at the Summer Sonic Festival this August and took the stage with fellow YG labelmates for the "2010 YG Family Concert" in early December in Korea.
