'Superstar K' to hold auditions overseas

The popular cable show modeled after “American Idol” will hold sessions in Tokyo, Sendai and Osaka, as well as Beijing and New York in June. Auditions for local talent are currently being held in eight locations around Korea.

“Superstar K” will hold auditions in Japan, China and the United States this summer to select contestants for the third season of the talent show, Mnet said Tuesday.

“We launched ‘Superstar K’ in order to give a chance to aspiring singers, mostly comprising of people who have wanted to sing but didn’t have the opportunity to do so. We decided to provide these services so that people can participate more easily,” said Kim Ki-woong, director of “Superstar K.”

Last season’s “Superstar K” created a sensation as John Park, a Korean-American who appeared in “American Idol,” took part in the competition. The eventual winner, Huh Gak, a ventilator repairman, also became a household name.

“Considering how travel remains difficult in eastern Japan after the earthquakes, we decided to go there ourselves,” said organizers of the program through a press release.

Participants in each city will take part in a two-part screening process. Contenders from Korea and Japan will compete against one another in a third round, while those that make the cut will vie in a fourth and final screening against participants from New York and Beijing.

The latter, called “Super Week,” will be held in Seoul in August, and organizers will provide transportation and accommodation for those traveling from overseas as well as those from Jeju Island.
The program’s popularity spread overseas, particularly in Japan. Some 90 percent of applicants from the neighboring coutnry this year are Japanese, unlike the strong ethnic Korean demographics of hopefuls in Beijing and New York, said Mnet.

The winner will be entitled to a cash prize of $500,000, concert opportunities and a recording contract.

U-KISS begins preparations for U.S. debut

Boy group U-KISS is planning on entering the U.S. music market, and have already kicked off preparations for their debut.

According to information revealed by their agency, NH Media, on January 11th, the agency will be utilizing the members’ different cultural backgrounds and language skills as the base for their debut in the States.

Representatives revealed, “We’ve already listened to about 100 new songs for their new album.  The songs chosen will be group ballads, a genre which hasn’t been featured in U-KISS’s albums. Our production team in the States, “I PED,” has already prepared choreography videos.”

They continued, “We’re currently discussing how we’ll be bringing the boys over, since they have various schedules to still complete in Korea.  We’ll be balancing it with the group’s Korean comeback.

Their album will be completed by February.

YG Entertainment attracts the attention of musicians known worldwide

Out of the three major Korean music agencies, YG Entertainment has been receiving the spotlight of famous producers from the states, as their music is centered around hip hop, unlike SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.

The current musicians sending their love calls over to YGE are Will.I.Am, Jeremy Scott, and Diplo.  There’s also a wide variety in that some are singers, composers, and DJS.  Many large-scale producers and agencies are also said to be waiting for YG artists such as Big Bang and 2NE1 to debut in the states.

Through such support, YG has been speeding up their efforts in advancing into the international market.  Both Big Bang and 2NE1 announced that they’d be focusing on the Japanese market, while CEO Yang Hyun Suk is in under the table discussions with representatives in the U.S.

2NE1 also finalized their first official album productions in the states, and it seems like Big Bang, who’s scheduled to release a new album in February, will be preparing themselves through the same route.
Why are so many American musicians reacting so intensely to YG’s music?  Many have speculated the reason to be YG consistently releasing Big Bang and 2NE1 to the public all over the world, by uploading songs and music videos through YouTube and iTunes.

Taeyang and T.O.P’s solo albums were all released on iTunes and ranked in at the top in the hip hop category.  2NE1’s YouTube music videos also earned millions of views.  Without any official promotions, YG managed to attract Will.I.Am and other top class musicians by just working with new music venues.

Big Bang’s first sub-unit, GD&TOP, also received praise from the internationally famous DJ and music producer, Diplo (Thomas Wesley Pentz).  On January 5th, he linked to the “Knock Out” music video and wrote, “Half a million views in 1 day? I’m gonna move to Korea and produce more music like this.

Reasons For Changes Made To US Stops and Apology From JYJ's Publicist Mellisa Lam

http://dc232.4shared.com/img/355404567/2db69899/s3/0.30839389391824035/jyj.jpg
20th October, 5.31pm, SGT
Dear Fans,
First of all, we would like to start this mail with an apology to the change in US stops and all prior travel arrangements made to former locations.
We decided to replace two stops on the original schedule as:
1. It is too punishing on the members physically and mentally to do the back to back gigs and specifically for the US leg, we are taking into consideration possible jet lag.
2. The change was made in lieu of tremendous feedback received from Japanese fans who have asked if we could put one stop in Hawaii for them since Japan was not included in this tour.
3. We wanted to make sure that all JYJ fans will be able to get a ticket to the showcases and hence we told promoters that we need a minimum of a 5000 pax venue for each stop. Due to constraints at the former locations, this can only be accomplished with the new tour stops added. (with the exception of NYC which needed to be locked in as press activities for the stop has been confirmed).
We apologize once again for the inconveniences caused and ask for your understanding. It is the best solution we can come up with to meet expectations on every level.
Thank you.
**Official ticketing information on each stop will be released early next week.

Thank you for supporting JYJ in their debut Showcase World Tour 2010 – “The Beginning”.
With Warm Regards,
Fan Coordinator,
Monica. C
