Staff at Vita500 tweets about Girls' Generation

As most of you guys should know by now, Girls' Generation is currently endorsing for Vita500. The official twitter for the company that the drink is under: Kwang Dong Pharmacy has been answering a lot of questions from fans about the Vita500 product, as well as the Girls. The staff member working the account has been really nice trying to answer all the international fans' tweets even though the English has been overwhelming her a bit. Hangthienbao and I asked her about her experience on set with the Girls and she was kind of enough to tweet us in Korean so that she could express herself fully and we told her that we would translate it:

"All the members greeted everyone brightly (were well-mannered) and seemed to be full of energy. Each member had her own interview, in which they all worked very hard and were very pretty.

As a client, I could have taken a photo with them, but couldn't because they were so pretty that I thought I'd come out badly (in comparison) T T. I did still get autographs, though. The members seemed to be very close (with each other). They were all so adorable.

I actually used to like SNSD for their songs only (their songs are exciting/invigorating, right?) Maybe it's because they're modelling for our company but I'm starting to like them a lot now, too. I'm moved by how well-mannered their Korean and international fans are."

Time after time it's great to see staff that work with the Girls compliment them on their work ethic and of course great manners! It's also nice to hear that her impression of SONEs is very positive! Let's continue to follow Vita500! We also learned through her that because their contract with SM is exclusive to just Korea right now, the exported bottles of Vita500 will not have the label with the girls' faces but if there's an update or change she'll let us know!

Will BEAST be the target of "Ten-Minute" at the 2011 Dream Concert?

At the 2008 Dream Concert, Cassiopeia, ELF, and Triple-S all turned off their glowsticks and stayed silent during Girls' Generation's stage. The incident was covered up by editing on broadcast, but many fans who were there disproved the broadcast with pictures and fancams.

The silent treatment is dubbed "Ten-Minute," because the audience stays silent for the ten minutes that the artist is on stage. It received a lot of criticism not only from Sones but also from other members of Cassiopeia, ELF, and Triple-S.

However, it may be happening again at Dream Concert 2011, and its target will be BEAST this year. Some B2uties have set themselves apart from many fanbases because of how they are acting toward members of other idol groups. There have been many incidents where some B2uties have gone into other idols' fan cafes and started to bash the idols and compare them to BEAST, saying things such as "BEAST sings better than SHINee," "BEAST is better looking than TVXQ," "BEAST dances better than 2PM," and have even gone to say "BEAST is just better than MBLAQ."

There have been cases on the color dispute regarding Junhyung's glowstick. The glowstick in question creates a pinkish purple color when the red and the blue parts are put together. Since blue is Super Junior's color, red is TVXQ's color, and pink is Girls' Generations', their respective fanclubs have spoken up in protest. However, their protests have been either ignored or laughed at by some B2uties, making fans furious.

However, some fans, B2uty and others alike, are suspicious that it may be antis instead of actually B2uties that are causing such a havoc. As a result, many fans are against the "Ten-Minute" against BEAST, and B2uties have pleaded with other fans to not punish the BEAST members for something that some bad-mannered fans have done.

What do you think will end up happening?

120,000 American SNSD Fanclub Members

On the afternoon of the 8th in a theatre in Los Angeles. Caucasian female, Sarah (28), who was wearing a pink T-Shirt with “Soshified” written on it danced along to SNSD’s big hit “Gee”. Sarah is one of the 120,000 members of America’s SNSD fan community “Soshified”. She participated in the first planned Soshified meeting. 500 people from all over America came together to participate in this event. “Soshified” comes from SNSD’s abbreviation “Soshi” and the English world “Satisfied”.

— How do you sing the lyrics accurately?
“I really like K-POP and I’ve started to learn Korean. Right now, I memorize the lyrics by transcribing the Korean pronunciation into English.”

— Why is K-POP good?
“American pop is all over the world and it’s hard to enjoy it together, but anyone can easily enjoy K-POP, no matter what their age.”

Up until now, America is a place that Korean singers can’t overlook. American pop is just a “textbook” that Korean singers imitate. But, by the 2nd half of the 2000s, they began to challenge that. Rain (Bi), BoA, SE7EN have all stood on the American stage. Wonder Girls became the first ever Korean singers to appear on the Billboard Charts at 76.

Last September 15,000 American fans gathered in LA for the “SM Town Concert”. SNSD, Super Junior, SHINee and other SM Entertainment artists participated in the concert and the tickets to the performance were completely sold out one month before.

On this day at “Soshified”’s event location you could see people from various races. Black people, white people, Asian people, etc… were all present equally. SMUSA said, “Of those in attendance, more than half were Hispanic, white or some other non-Asian race”. At the event venue they played the Korean produced SNSD videos. The venue had cheers of joy as they watched the SNSD members dance and sing on the video. Uncle fans were also noticeable. In a lively voice they did the fan chants “SEO NYUH SHI DAE!”. With a moustache and long beard Grimmy (49) introduced himself, “I’m a long time SNSD uncle fan”.

— How did you come to know Korean girl groups?
“Through YouTube and other internet sites. But, not just SNSD, KARA and Secret too, I like mostly Korean girl groups.”

— Why do you like Korean girl groups?
“In American groups, it’s typical that only 1 member is noticed. In Korean girl groups, all of the members are charming. All 9 members are Beyonce in SNSD.”

They finished up the day by flying paper airplanes with what they would want to say to SNSD written on them. On Twitter they also expressed their wishes for SNSD in the “Tell me your wish” corner. The main way for K-POP to broaden and cross over from Asia into places like America and Europe is through YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other global networks. Even though SNSD hasn’t debuted officially in America, they still have a large-scale fanclub such as this.

On the 13th in America’s Wall Street Journal they had a special feature and reported, “SNSD was successful in their Japan debut thanks to the PR efforts on YouTube. Using YouTube for PR doesn’t cost much at all and you could see the response in the market before their debut. Korean entertainment companies are being proactive with their YouTube usage.”

Girls’ Generation Attracts 20,000 Fans to Japan Showcase

Girls’ Generation held their Japan debut showcase last week and it attracted approximately 20,000 fans to the event!

The showcase was held at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo and it didn’t just hold the fans; there was a reported about a total 1,000 journalists, advertisers and record company officials. The girls’ Japanese record label, Universal Japan Nayuta Wave Records, expressed its hopes for the group’s activities in Japan. A representative stated,“About 80 percent of the audience were females in their teens to twenties which proves that the interest young women have in Girls’ Generation comes from the group’s appeal and not the K-pop boom. This will help solidify their status in the J-pop market.”

The girls have also expressed their joy, “We were so surprised to see so many fans at our showcase when we haven’t even debuted…… We are looking forward to the days that lay ahead of us in Japan.” The showcase took place a total of three times instead of once — SM extended the number following Japanese fans’ heated interest in the girls. Meanwhile, Girl’s Generation will head to LA this weekend for the SM TOWN Live ’10 World Tour.

SNSD's Taiwan Concert Tickets Sold Out After 1½ Hours

SNSD’s popularity in Taiwan is overheating.

SNSD began an advance sale of their tickets on the 28th to their October 16th concert in Taiwan. On the same day online sales also began and people who wanted to buy tickets flooded in causing the homepage server to go down. The server could not be restored, so the tickets were only sold offline. However, even though people could only buy the tickets in person, 11,000 out of the 12,000 tickets were sold and their popularity could really be felt.

Taiwan’s TVBS Newspaper reported, “Fans of the Korean idol group SNSD flooded in because they wanted to go see their concert and this caused our homepage server to go down. We couldn’t expect that so many people would flood in. We quickly dealt with the offline sales and all of our prepared tickets became sold out after one and a half hours.”

SNSD already finished up a solo concert in Shanghai, China on April 17th. Their Japanese debut showcase was also received explosive interest, at first one 1 performance was planned and they changed it to 3 performances. From now on we wonder if SNSD can cross from Asia and grow into world stars. We will pay attention to future developments.

The SNSD member to be humiliated with her fresh face in Japan?

SNSD confessed their “fresh-face humiliation” they had in Japan.

On KBS's Entertainment Relay, which was broadcast on the 28th, SNSD, who had their showcases in Japan, talked about their Japanese promotions.

For the reporter’s question, “do you feel your fame in Japan”, Sooyoung replied, “One of our members went to a convenience store the other day, and a Japanese fan recognised her” and said Japanese fans were interested a lot in SNSD as well. But she also said, “but that member didn’t have any make-up on, so she said she wasn’t in SNSD”, then Sunny, embarrassed, revealed that she was the one.

Then Hyoyeon revealed, “when she said so, the Japanese fan really believed her and left” and Sunny’s humiliating story was revealed. Sunny, after hearing this, “I thought I should always be humble” and dropped her head, making other members laugh.

Also, SNSD, being asked the differences between Korean and Japanese fans, said “when we sing, Japanese fans not only sing along the lyrics, but also memorise the choreography and dance along” and expressed their surprise to Japanese fans’ active interests.

On the other hand, SNSD held a showcase at Tokyo Ariake Colosseum on the 25th and started their Japanese promotions.

Japanese's interest in SNSD grows

25th August, 8.30pm, at Ariake Colosseum, as soon as the last of the 3 showcases by SNSD had finished, they were reported as the 'Top news' on NHK News watch at 9pm (The main news of NHK in Japan).

The reason that they made the top news was because of all the Japanese fans, especially in the 10s and 20s, lined up to see SNSD's first show case in Japan.

Following morning, the hype continued on. On a morning Japanese programme, which provides information about society, politics, celebrities etc, and other celebrity programmes focussed on SNSD. They said that "Number 1 group in Korea, performed for the first time in Japan. Including their additional performance, they performed 3 times in total in front of 22,000 fans.

If that hadn't been enough, the press in Japan had also wrote articles on SNSD. 'Yori woori' newspaper reported "Top idol group SNSD, who was placed number 1 for 9 weeks in Korea 2009, had debuted in Japan". Another press reported that "When Asia's top 9 membered Kpop group performed in Japan, all the teens were shouting "Cuuute!" and "Kkkkaaaa!" from start to finish.

SNSD is also planning to have a fan meeting on the 27th.

SNSD chosen as #1 celebrity to be with on deserted island

Arguably the most popular girl group SNSD was chosen as the #1 celebrity to be with when stuck on a deserted island.

In order to celebrate the launching event of airing Lost season 6, television channel CGV held a survey that asked the public to choose the celebrity they want to be with on a deserted island. On the 24th, results showed idol group SNSD as first place in this survey that started on the 10th through CGV’s homepage. Furthermore, it was shown that approximately 2,068 male netizens and 2,211 netizens participated in this survey so far. Although this survey continues until September 8th, SNSD seems to be taking the lead by a long shot as they received 49.3% of the male votes.

Netizens who voted for SNSD commented, “If I’m with cute and bright SNSD, even if I’m stuck in a hot and deserted island I think I have fun.” Following SNSD’s first place was sexy icon Lee Hyori with 416 votes (20.1%). Lee Hyori who is receiving all the males’ love and interest through her quirky, tough and sexy personality proved her popularity through this survey. One of the males who voted for this diva expressed, “Because Lee Hyori is good at cooking and has strong living skills even if I’m stuck on a deserted island with her I don’t think I’ll die from starvation. Also with the remaining time we could play games, dance and sing so I think I’ll forget that I’m on a deserted island.”

Meanwhile, among females So Ji Sub who is receiving great popularity for his charismatic “hot” role in drama Road Number One was chosen as first place. Among the female votes the actor received 49.9% of them. Following close in second place was adorable female’s “forever romantic ideal” Lee Seung Gi who took 574 votes (26%). After the two other celebrities including Rain and 2PM’s Taecyeon placed third and fourth place respectively.

Among the mentioned choices, I would definitely choose Lee Seung Gi as my ideal celebrity to be with on a deserted island. It’s highly unlikely that I’ll meet any of these stars in my lifetime but hey, a girl can always dream. Let us know who YOU want be with on a deserted island

Korean Girl Groups in report from Japan newspaper

Hallyu Girl Group Chaos
Four arrivals in less than six months
by: Tanaka Makoto

Korea's girl groups will be arriving one by one at Japan this summer. In commemoration of their debut, droves of fans have been crowding with a quickly rising feverish fervor. The hallyu idols seem to be counting on their charms to lead the way in creating a commotion of hype for their arrival.

On August 11, the charismatic and instantly famous, 5-girl group KARA debuted with their single Mister. Video uploading sites quickly began flooding with their back-bending “Hip Dance”. The same day, KARA gave a surprise live performance in front of the Shibuya 109 building in commemoration of their debut. Despite no prior announcement of such performance, the event was reported by the organizers to have attracted around 3000 people.

The Korean music groups that have led the way in breaking into Japan in the past include DBSK, Big Bang, and such boy bands. However starting this year, it seems the spread of the Korean boom has taken on the shape of girl groups.

Leading the way is the 5-girl group 4minute who debuted last May. Combining rap with hip-hop flavors, 4minute already announced last month the release of their second single.

Following in KARA's footsteps, is the 9-girl group Girl's Generation who on August 11th released a DVD compilation of their music videos. Featuring costumes that heavily emphasize their long and slender legs, Girl's Generation is very proud of the immense success they enjoy in their homeland. On the 25th, they plan to hold an event at the Tokyo Ariake Collosseum for some 10000 people.

On the same 25th, using their “sexy dance”˟ to spread their more adult-oriented sex appeal, the 4-girl group Brown Eyed Girls will also debut. This brings the total number of girl groups to debut in Japan in less than six-months to four.

The personality of the groups differ in slight ways, but their in-fashion electronic tracks, their perfectly coordinated dance routines, and their sexy costumes (along with other such weapons) is something they all have in common.

˟The actual term used is「小生意気ダンス」which literally means “cheeky/impudent dance”. The「」surrounding the term suggests the term is a fixed one used by Brown Eyed fans. I used “sexy dance” since I am unfamiliar with the Brown Eyed fandom.
