T-ara to launch subunit made up of Jiyeon, Eunjung, Hyomin, and Areum

There is some exciting news in store for Queen’s!
Idol group subunits seem to be the trend these days, and jumping on the bandwagon will be T-ara with their very own unit consisting of 4 members!

Who will be in this currently unnamed subunit? Apparently it will be Jiyeon, Eunjung, Hyomin, and Areum, and they’ll be kicking off promotions with a song by one of the hottest producer teams these days, Duble Sidekick!

Core Contents Media broke the news on the 27th, stating, “A unit made up of Jiyeon-Eunjung-Hyomin-Areum is scheduled to launch.”

However, unlike other subunits that try their hands at a different concept or style of music than their original groups, this T-ara subunit will continue with ‘T-ara-like’ performances. The agency added, “They’ll be approaching the public with an even more familiar image.”

According to the rep spoken with, the unit has big plans in store as they hope to create a ‘national dance’ that the whole nation will be able to dance along to, much like the way everyone knows how to do the ‘Y.M.C.A’. The rep added with laughter, “We are expecting to see a song that will be like the next ‘Gangnam Style’.”

As for the other members, Boram, Qri, and Soyeon, they’ll be focusing on individual activities for the time being. After the concluding of unit and individual promotions, the group will reunite and stand together on stage again for their Japanese arena tour.

The subunit is said to be aiming for launch around April or May, so keep an eye out for updates!

T-ara's agency refutes talk of Jiyeon getting special admission into Sungkyunkwan University

A spokesperson from T-ara Jiyeon's agency dismissed rumors of her special admission into a university as groundless. Recently, talk of third-year high school student Jiyeon gaining special admission into Sungkyunkwan University has been taking flight on the internet.

It has however, been debunked by her agency. On October 25th, Core Contents Media stated, "The rumors that Jiyeon was offered special admission into the Korean Literature course at Sungkyunkwan University is groundless. She did not even apply for it."

A netizen who identified himself as a current student at the university also confirmed that Sungkyunkwan University has said the same thing. Jiyeon is currently applying for an arts program at another university, where she hopes to get a place through her own efforts without any special consideration.

Meanwhile, T-ara is set to make their Korean comeback at the start of November.

Why haven’t T-ara made advancements into the Japanese market yet?

T-ara have been receiving endless love calls from popular music agencies in Japan, however, just like last year, T-ara have decided to take their Japanese advancement slowly.

But why?

On January 4th, Core Contents Media told Money Today Star News, “Ever since their popular hits “Bo Peep Bo Peep” and “I’m Going Crazy Because of You” last year, T-ara have been receiving endless calls from Japanese agencies. We filmed a Japanese CF together with Supernova last year, however, we’ve always made cautious decisions regarding advancements music-wise.”

As the Japanese market is currently favoring the successful advancement of girl groups SNSDKARA, T-ara’s much more cautious approach on this matter have gotten both fans and other Korean agencies wondering on Core Content Media’s reasons behind this approach.

“We’ve wanted T-ara to become all-round idols right from the beginning. In the changing generation, we believe it is more appropriate for idol stars to reach for their fans with a variety of strong points rather than just one charm. Even the members shared the same opinions,” stated Kim Kwang Soo, CCM’s CEO.

He continued, “This is why Eun Jung, Jiyeon, Hyomin, Soyeon and Boram participated in acting, variety, and musical activities throughout last year. We will continue with that approach this year, and we feel this is strengthening the endurance of the members.”

Kim concluded, “Since we have more plans in mind after their various schedules, we have been taking the Japanese advancement into cautious consideration. However, as we are still receiving calls from Japanese agencies, we expect to share good news in the near future.”

The decision to take a more calculated approach to T-ara’s advancement into Japan could certainly have its benefits, especially if the end result is well planned and involves them promoting actively in a variety of ways.
However, their fans have already been waiting for quite some time, and not striking while the iron is hot could cost them potential profits and popularity as well.

What do you guys think is the better move?
